Maternity Swimwear

I'm really curious to hear thoughts about this topic. I *googled* "maternity swimwear" and found many helpful sites as well as many interesting conversations. One of the boldest, and funniest--in my opinion, was the topic of "baring your growing" belly. It seems that pregnancy bikinis are quite the popular trend these days, but imagining myself in one of those get-ups made me feel gross--and sorry for anyone else who had to look at me.

I'm going to need a materninty swimsuit. Patrick and I are going to Destin the first week of June, and I plan on spending the rest of my summer floating and immersing my pregnant self in the neighborhood pool.

Here are a couple of things I've found.

I'm wondering about the skirt--if it is necessary. I'm thinking I'll probably want as much skin covered as possible--especially for walking on the beach--but do you think it is a must have? Any suggestions/ideas are welcomed!

the skirt, i had one suit with and also one without, i prefered the one with the skirt it just made me feel better, but i also loved the one i had that didn't have one and really i wore it just as much. I know thats not very helpful, but i guess for walking on the beach the skirt would be a must! How fun that you guys are going to the beach!!! i'm jealous!

So...no experience with the maternity swimwear...but I like the one on the left.
And I don't show my belly now--gotta say I won't when I'm pregnant either. :)
Congratulations again!

water=weightlessness=muy fabuloso!!!

since emmy was born this january, toward the end of my pregnancy i would go and fill the tub up to its utmost and then rotate ever so gently in the water so my belly would float a little on each side. I was desperate!

Swimsuits: I found mine online, and one piece of advice, make sure the back closes. I dont know if you ever saw mine but it was cute-only it tied up high in the back and the rest would swing open in the wind to show off my bulging back lines which i was hyper sensitive about anyway...so make sure you know how the back works if it doesnt have a pic!

as far as a skirt goes, if you plan to walk, my vote is strapless cute cover up and that way when you lay out you can remove it and not suffer too much from the lines of it all.

so now that Ive made you hyper paranoid...just make sure the top is snug fitting. You're gonna look so cute...so enjoy it while you can. you deserve the enjoyment part.

BUT for the love of everyone, please no bikinis...i dont care if you're flippin angelena jolie adopt a million babies pitt!

wow. i was really opinionated on that one and probably not helpful at all! ;)

i meant to say...don't be afraid to wear it a little snug so you can show off your belly a little. i think the blue one is super cute!

Thanks for the help so far, girls! Ash, I'm so thankful that you warned me about open backs {no need to expose my muffin top-ish-ness}. :)

What do y'all think about buying the brown skirt in addition to the blue one for walks and such? I'm really feeling the blue one.

Yay for the beach!

I like your idea of having the brown skirt to wear with the suit on the left for walks on the beach or something other than lounging. I agree with Ash that having a coverup might also be nice so that you could take it off when you get to your beach chair and not have your tan lines messed up. On the other hand, excuse my ignorance, but do pregnant people care about tans? I was not aware of that! (I'm always learning new and interesting things about that era of life!)

I don't mind being a public spectator of any pregnant bathing suit as long as it doesn't scar me for life and make me scared to be pregnant if you know what I mean.

Ok, Baby Crawdy deserves the Circle Journey's rotation once more. (Have I even sent it since I got married? Yipes!) Hopefully it will be appearing in your mailbox soon!

Jess-yes pregnant people care about tans! hahaha! At least I did. if anything, i think you care about them more because it makes you feel even cuter in a time when you need it. ;)

Kristy-go with whateva makes you feel fabo. I would almost recommend at least trying on the skirt with the swimsuit cause I love the blue swimsuit but you don't know how it will make you look when its on. You may look awesome, and you may look like a square. skirts are dangeous territory when sporting a belly. I stayed away from them because thats just me personally. But you have an awesome tallness about you that I happen to envy, and are known for pulling off things I never could.

So just try it on and do what makes you feel good. if you have to order it, then just send it back if you don't like it. But at least you tried it. ;) I think they're both cute though and you will look awesome in whatever you try on.

omgah I'm wayyy too opinionated. sorry if I'm suddenly the obnoxious blogger.

the skirt with the blue would be really cute i think! i really love the blue, but i have to say i loved my skirt, also i don't know if other people had this problem but the very top of my thigh i had hard time getting tan because i always sat up in lounge chair so i could read and people watch and my belly of course i was 8-9months pregnant, kept the top of my thighs from getting as tan, so the skirt helped cover that up, which i really liked. But whatever you choose will look adorable!!! The blue is so cute! Where did you find it?

Amy, good thoughts! One on the left--Target. One on the right--GAP.

Ash and Jess, I'm going to need some tan-ness to feel pretty, I'm afraid! :)

I say the one without the skirt. I had one almost identical to the one on the left and loved it! agree with previous posters - I wanted the top to fit pretty well and show the curve of my belly - I didn't want people to think I was just fat! But, I did feel like the skirt was a little too much fabric and might make me look even bigger. My legs weren't the largest part of me, and I wanted to show parts that weren't large and cover those parts that were. With your long legs I think you'd like one without a skirt - just my opinion! You'll look beautiful no matter what you choose and you'll be surprised how much you'll embrace your pregnant body (take it from this lifelong dieter and weight watcher).

Kristy...I have missed something! I read your blog quite often but somehow missed your fantastic news. Congratulations! I'm so excited for you. :)
As far as the swimsuit, I had May and December babies. I don't remember having a preggie suit. Sorry, I'm no help. I definetly think you should wear what makes you feel good though. :)

I like the one on the left. Cute cute. You may remember my orangish tank suit from last summer---when I was like a bloated Dreamsicle...I feel your pain.

You're such a cute pregnant lady friend! If you want to cover-up, get a cover-up dress thing. Those are super cute. I think you should check these out. http://www.motherhood.com/mastercategory.asp?MasterCategory_Id=18&ViewAll=false
Some adorable ones there for sure.
I wouldn't do the skirt because a lot of them I've seen have longer tops. I like the pink one and the brown one with circles for you.
If it were me, I'd show skin - but that's because I'm trashy. Haha - totally kidding!!

I have one without the skirt, but the top comesdown almost to the leg opening. Mine is all one piece, but looks like two. I loved wearing it. I even wore it post pregnancy when nothing else fit! Don't be afraid to buy a good one. I've worn mine through two pregnancies and it still looks great!

Kris-- it's amy--- and i'm leaving a comment, which makes you super special :o). I got mine at Mimi Maternity but it had a tie back that did flap a little, but over all, I loved it. I'm not a huge fan of the skirt-- I agree with wanting the coverage, but at this point, screw it-- b/c you have an excuse for everything right now!!
