Things that I am currently SO OVER

I'm a bit BLAH today... and maybe a little bit hormonally charged too, but seriously?

1. Facebook Status Whores--the people who change their facebook status every 3 hours and flood our homepages with their idle occurrences... What's next? Will you tell us the next time you feel the urge to go to the bathroom? {Come on, you know you feel me on this one...? I could almost write a separate post about it and ask everybody to submit the most obnoxious facebook status you've ever read... My anti-favorite is "So-and-so is sick of backstabbing jerks. Y'all know who y'all are." SERIOUSLY? What is yours?}

2. IKEs--you know the, "I KNOW EVERYTHING" types. They come in all forms, but I am especially annoyed by the "young mommy" IKEs. There's not a manual, people. Every child is different. Every parent is different. We're all just doing the best we can. I ask for help and advice any time I can--from my pediatrician, my mother and sister, my closest girlfriends, and mothers I respect, but don't give *me* condescending, unsolicited advice and act like you are the one who invented it. There's nothing new under the sun, girlfriend! {On the flip side, I am always so inspired by the refreshing humility that some of my mommy friends possess, the kind of humility that reflects a prayerful, searching spirit.}

3. MJ and Steve McNair being immoralized in their tragic deaths--dare I say it? Don't get me wrong, I boo-hooed during MJ's memorial service, have listened to his #1's album repeatedly, and am choosing to try to believe the best of him; McNair's tragedy put a sad damper on our 4th of July party. I hurt for the families, mourn their untimely deaths, but I also recognize their humanity, and I wish the media would let them rest in peace.

4. How FAST time goes by--I've been over this since I was a little girl, praying to Jesus every night for time to go slow so that I could be a little girl forever. Now, as a mommy to a little girl, I find myself saying that same prayer...

5. Missed opportunities--there's a separate post coming about this, but it's something that's been on my mind a lot lately.

Preach it!
And confession...I think I am prone to over-updating, so I have had to set limits for myself--usually once...or twice...a day. Hopefully the statuses (stati?) themselves aren't quite so irritating, though. ha!

These are so true... and I love MJ, but enough is enough!!! And the mommy thing... girl, it drives me nuts!! Just wait until Addison is old enough to speak her mind at a play group and then hear all the "advice" you will get about how you SHOULD HAVE handled the situation. I'm like, look, time-outs may work for you, but your kids are also some of the calmest and strangely quiet children I've ever been around. No thanks, I'll take my spunky wild bunch and just spank them when I see need... Needless to say, we no longer frequent that group. I am very blessed to have a wonderful group of gals (many you probably know) who go to our church in AU and are all much like us and feel the same. Unsolicited advice is not allowed at playgroups! Whew, sorry, getting off my soap box now!
:-) Please tell your sister hello. Take care!

I'm feeling you on all these, but especially the Facebook status and MJ's death. I think it would be hilarious to everyone's favorite "most obnoxious status." Also, have you noticed how our soldiers are dying every day to fight for us and we rarely hear about that because the media is too busy idolizing people that have, let's be truthful here, done some really bad things in their lives. Doesn't make sense to me either!!

Hahaha! This was hilarious! I love that you called those people "IKEs." IKEs drive me nuts. Especially the ones who make obvious statements and act like you didn't know about it... ugh.

Also, I love making the joke, "Did you hear that Michael Jackson died?" It's overkill here media people. We are sad, he died too young. We get it. Let's take a couple of days... move on...

Interested to read about missed opportunities....

Tiffany, you are SO not one of those that I was referring to! I too limit my updates and time on good ole FB--it can be a life sucker! :)

Holly, I'll def tell Linds you said hey. She reads your blog some and thinks you are just the same--hilarious, sweet, down-to-earth Holly. We'd love a family gathering. And, when Addison is old enough to speak her mind, I'm nervous to what she'll say, but I'm even more nervous that my smile through clenched teeth will be too transparent and that I'LL speak MY mind... I should start praying for grace and self-control now! :) {BTW, I just put together who "Dixie" is. Tell her and her man that I said hey and congrats!}

Katie, I LOVE what you wrote on my wall. I think it is a perfect status for you. :)

Cort, I agree with what you wrote about idolizing flawed people. Even beyond celebrities, I get frustrated with how our culture and society and even churches put people up on pedestals. It is set up for disaster.

Haley, I'd love to hear your list!

Facebook status:I just went to the bathroom and used one sheet instead of two. Join me in saving the earth.

My comment to about know- it alls: Ignorance is bliss. When my 2 year-old starts singing the VBS song "Booster, Booster, be a booster" as loud as he can in the middle of church with songbook in hand, I just shrug my shoulders and smile and say, "I just don't know what to do with him." :o)

Steve McNair and MJ- Trajic, but proof that You reep what you sow.

Time: I will always think of myself as a little girl. Of course, when I called my mom during Satan's visit with the stomach virus in December and was crying like a baby saying that I needed her, she, rather forcefully, told me I needed to Buck up and be a big girl because I was a mommy now." Sometimes I just don't like putting on the big girl panties.

Missed opps-- Having 2 kids now has made me actually take a breather and say, you know what, if I have to miss doing the laundry and wear my underwear twice, it's worth the sacrifice to be able to watch my son do another rendition of his dance moves to Black Eye Peas "Boom Boom Pow". :o)

Okay, I started out this post laughing and ended it crying. Laughing about the facebook status and then my experience with the facebook status and the IKE. Which by the way, I also find that the IKE is usually also an EGR (extra grace required). Especially when I am tempted to do something to their perfect child like pinch them while the mom isn't looking so that they will scream. I haven't actually done that... yet.

But the facebook status.. When I do update them it's usually with something rather light about parenting. Something like, "Dana has officially been initiated into the terrible twos" or "Chloe just came in the room and said, "I hit Emma". What do I do with that"? Seriously, it was rhetorical..

And the crying... Time going by so fast..Boy does it?.. That was rhetorical too :) But I'm sure that there is someone out that has a good book to recommend about it.

Well, after this post coming up in conversation at lunch with BEAR today, I feel compelled to credit the IKE term to him and his business partner. So I cite him in this clever quip. :)
